Initially our main priority was to set up a Resource Centre to enable all the schools to have equal access to computers, books and other resources.
We converted an empty classroom block in one of the villages to provide a library and meetings room / audio visuals room. & we now have a fully equipped computer lab
We are now funding an IT facilitator to run courses at the Resource Centre |

New Learning New Lives Learning International Volunteers and Educational Support “Literacy is the fertilizer needed for development and democracy to take root and grow.”
Following discussions with the teachers in Tyume Valley, they felt that many of their students were underachieving in their School Leaving exams. The main reasons being that:- · lessons in secondary schools are taught in English · all School Leaving Exams are set in English · English is not spoken much at home in the villages
We are focussing our activities on improving the student’s standard of English Language by :- 1 by providing a supplementary English Language course for primary school children 2 employing a local IT facilitator to run courses at the Resource Centre 3 by replacing our old minibus which is essential to transport students to the Resource Centre

English Language Courses TVS are now helping Primary Schools by providing a supplementary English Language course
Selected local teachers are being trained to use innovative English Language teaching methods
They are being mentored and supervised by TVS so that they can eventually take on the mentoring of fellow teachers themselves. |
The course is free to the children.
Transport and food are provided by TVS. |

TVS first began to address this issue at its Hobbiton study camp with 100 children & their teachers enjoying a TVS residential camp during August 2011. The camp involved lots of exciting activities as well as the English language teaching which was designed to demonstrate new ways of teaching
This is What the Learners & Educators Thought about the Course
“The language approaches were fun and provided meaningful stimulation. The facilities, playground, halls and food were ideal [and] before they do anything the staff make sure the children’s stomachs are full!” |
“It was nice because we played games and had fun learning English.” |
“Yes, I want to come back to Hobbiton. I love the games and activities and we learn English nicely.” |
