to these children who live in the Tyume Valley—an area of Eastern Cape which suffers from high levels of deprivation and HIV/AIDS

What are we trying to achieve ?

The children’s education has been severely neglected    We are trying to improve their life opportunities by:-

· providing them with stimulating experiences

· supporting teachers and schools to raise the standard of education through resources and training

· supporting the fight against HIV Aids by encouraging schools and local communities to work together.

How are we doing this ?

As we are a charity we rely on volunteers to give money and their time to make our projects happen.

Volunteer teachers from the UK have been visiting the Tyume Valley since 2003.

Providing Stimulating Experiences

Supporting the Fight Against HIV aids

Teachers Workshops and Counselling Courses have been organised for teachers and community members

Encouraging after School Activities Clubs

These are run by the School and Community and the children and they provide an opportunity for everyone to come together in a more relaxed environment. They provide an atmosphere in which counselling can take place as well as activities such as sports, music, arts, crafts. drama and environmental activities.

These clubs also:-

· Involve the Community by encouraging the passing on of local skills to the children and creating important links with the school and staff.

· Build Confidence and Life Skills as the students can actively help to organise the clubs which have an important social function.

· encourage cultural skills, physical activities and care of the environment
